–A rehabilitation project on the the Creston Gardens Apartments, located at Creston Road and Grand Canyon Drive, has begun. The apartments were originally built in the 1980s as a 60-unit USDA affordable housing project. Over the years, the project has aged and the affordable housing covenants have expired. Fortunately, in 2015, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing entered into a purchase agreement to acquire and rehabilitate the project with federal tax credits.

Since then, city staff has been working closely with Peoples’ Self-Help Housing’s project team to make sure permits were ready to issue under the tight tax credit timelines.

The project will have it’s official groundbreaking on May 3. The rehabilitation project will include a completely remodeled community building, as well as structural repairs, accessibility upgrades and security systems. All the housing units will receive new roofs, new windows, new paint, new kitchens, and new flooring and plumbing fixtures. Construction is expected to be completed in 2017.
