    Update posted July 6:

Templeton Fire Department provides update on feed and grain building fire

    – Templeton Fire and Emergency Services provided an update Saturday on the commercial structure fire at Templeton Feed and Grain, which began late Friday night.

At approximately 11:06 p.m. on Friday, fire crews were dispatched to 405 S. Main Street after alarms indicated a possible structure fire. The first unit to arrive reported a working fire with heavy smoke coming from the building, prompting an upgrade to a second alarm.

Templeton Fire reported that ten fire engines, three ladder trucks, a breathing support unit, and three chief officers responded to the scene. A total of 42 firefighters from Templeton Fire, Paso Robles Fire, Atascadero Fire, San Luis City Fire, Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County Fire, and San Miguel Fire are actively working to contain the fire.

Additional support has been provided by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Paso Robles Police Department, and San Luis Ambulance. These agencies are assisting with medical response, traffic control, and lane closures.

Templeton Fire said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The incident is expected to continue for several days.

In light of ongoing operations, the Templeton Community Services District is asking residents to limit water use to support firefighting efforts due to the high volume of water required to combat the blaze.

Main Street is closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic between 4th Street and 6th Street. Authorities continue to request that the public avoid the area.

    Original story posted July 5:

    – Multiple fire agencies responded to a second-alarm fire at Templeton Feed and Grain late Friday night, working into the early-morning hours Saturday, according to multiple reports.

The call came in shortly after 11 p.m. for a fire at the business located in the 400 block of S. Main Street. A Cal Fire spokesperson described the fire as “well-involved” and said part of the structure may have collapsed.

By 12:25 a.m., flames had spread to nearby vegetation. The spokesperson said the spread involved spot fires behind the building. Crews worked to protect nearby structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries have been reported. Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

Templeton Fire received assistance through an automatic aid agreement from Cal Fire, San Luis Obispo County Fire, Atascadero Fire, Paso Robles Fire, San Miguel Fire, and San Luis Obispo City Fire.

According to the company’s Facebook page, Templeton Feed and Grain has been family-owned and operated since 1946 and manufactures and sells a variety of animal feed at wholesale prices. The business had been scheduled to close July 4 and 5.
