Crews working this week to clear brush to reduce wildfire, flood risk
Overgrowth consists of fallen trees and brush beneath the canopy of living trees
– The City of Paso Robles is addressing overgrowth in local drainages to mitigate wildfire risks and improve flood control through a partnership with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council. The effort is funded by a grant from the council.
Crews will work along Union Road and areas off North River Road over the next week, weather permitting.
The overgrowth, which consists of fallen trees and brush beneath the canopy of living trees, creates risks during both fire season and heavy rains. The vegetation can help wildfires spread into residential areas and obstruct water flow during storms, potentially causing flooding and damaging city infrastructure.
With a storm forecasted this weekend, the city is reminding residents to drive cautiously on slick roads and avoid traveling through areas where water has submerged the roadway.
