    – Michelle Vautier, owner of CrossHatch Winery, has acquired a 40-acre farm at 10443 Dover Canyon Road in Templeton, where she plans to plant estate vineyards. The purchase represents a major development in the winery’s operations as it expands into the Paso Robles region.

“This farm represents everything I believe in — connecting with the land, embracing creativity, and fostering a deeper understanding of winemaking,” Vautier said. “I never imagined I would buy a farm, but I am a person who likes to get their hands dirty, without gloves.”

CrossHatch Winery, which Vautier founded with a focus on co-fermentation, is known for producing small-batch blends that highlight the combined characteristics of multiple grape varietals. The name and concept are inspired by the artistic technique of cross-hatching, which Vautier mirrors in her winemaking style by layering elements to create complexity and balance.

Originally from Argentina, Vautier entered the wine industry in 2020 following a career in financial technology. Motivated by a desire for a stronger connection to nature and a legacy for her daughter, she established CrossHatch Winery with a hands-on, sustainability-focused approach.

The Templeton property will serve multiple purposes. Along with the vineyard, Vautier plans to use the farm as a gathering space for wine club members and visitors. Future activities include winemaker dinners, educational events and tasting experiences.

“Wine brings people together — it’s meant to be shared, sparking conversations and creating lasting memories,” Vautier said. “We like to say that CrossHatch is where wine, stories, and cultures ferment together – one barrel at a time. This farm allows us to craft wines that connect people to each other and to the land, to tell new stories, and create even broader and richer experiences.”

CrossHatch Winery will continue operations at its tasting room in Santa Ynez. Visitors to the Santa Ynez Valley can sample current releases and learn more about the winery’s co-fermentation process.
