Cuesta College fall semester begins 

CuestaThe fall 2015 semester at Cuesta College is underway. Classes began on Monday with approximately 8,440 students having registered for courses offered on the San Luis Obispo Campus, North County Campus in Paso Robles, South County Center in Arroyo Grande and online. The fall semester runs until Dec. 18. Courses are still available in many areas, including less than full-term courses that run between 17 and three weeks in length, and short courses, which run two weeks or less. New for the fall 2015 semester:

• 10 new full-time faculty in the areas of human development, English, engineering and technology, fine arts, business education, nursing and allied health, agriculture business and counseling.
• A new agriculture business program. Students can now take an introduction to agriculture business course, and elements of accounting including agriculture business. The college plans to offer an agriculture business associate transfer degree during the academic year.
• Two new certificates of specialization in the areas of exercise science and marketing.
• Measure L bond construction on both the San Luis Obispo Campus and North County Campus has changed the location of some classrooms and student services. Updated campus maps include construction zones, future building locations and new temporary buildings.
• The second class of Cuesta Promise students. So far, more than 630 recent San Luis Obispo County high school graduates have received the Promise for the 2015-16 academic year. The scholarship provides a fee-free first year at Cuesta College worth nearly $1,400.
• Students taking courses on both the SLO and North County campuses can enjoy free RTA bus services for the first two weeks of classes. The RTA will also continue to offer extended bus service hours for North County Campus students. Buses leave the Paso Robles campus at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. The buses departing at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. will serve Paso Robles residents only, while the later two departures will serve Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero.
