Cuesta College Foundation awards More Scholarships to students than ever before

Cuesta campus San Luis Obispo.

–For the 2018-19 academic year, the Cuesta College Foundation awarded more scholarships and more money to more students than ever before. A total of 248 students received 486 scholarships, equating to nearly $385K being awarded.

“This year, the Cuesta College Foundation is thrilled to have assisted so many students in their academic goals with the gift of financial aid,” said Executive Director of the Cuesta College Foundation/Advancement Shannon Hill. “The support of individual donors and public organizations is a testament that the community is behind our students, cheering them on as they pursue higher education.”

On Aug. 3, the college hosted nearly 270 scholarship donors and student recipients at the 29th annual Scholarship Reception. Many students received more than one scholarship this year; scholarship monies can be used for tuition, books and other expenses. Recipients are current students at Cuesta College, incoming transfers and high school students who will attend the college in fall 2018.

The scholarships awarded on Aug. 3 do not include the Promise Scholarship, which offers two years of fee-free education to SLO County high school graduates. Last year, 876 students received the Promise Scholarship.

The Cuesta College Foundation was founded in 1973 for the specific and primary purposes of promoting the general welfare of Cuesta College. The Foundation assists and supports Cuesta College in the attainment of educational, scientific and cultural goals and in fulfilling the College’s mission of service to the community. As the lead entity for resource development for the college, the Foundation has provided millions of dollars for student scholarships, equipment, and programs and projects.
