The Cuesta College Board of Trustees recently approved multiple contracts to begin work on Measure L projects. On Jan. 7, the trustees approved an agreement for on-going architectural services with PMSM Architects and an agreement for ongoing construction management services with Blach Construction. With the passage of the bond in November 2014, the District is now engaged in the design, bidding and construction of works for improvement, consisting generally of the demolition, construction, modernization, and/or alteration of new and existing physical facilities at the District’s two campuses. It will also be engaged in a building program consisting of the new construction, modernization, renovation and/or upgrades to facilities situated on the District’s San Luis Obispo Campus and North County Campus.

The PMSM Architects budget for construction of the North County Campus Center is a fixed fee and not to exceed $2,599,700; for the San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building it is $1,892,400. The Blach Construction master agreement for construction management services is not to exceed $135,320, providing services through November 2015 necessary in assisting the District in ensuring that both the NCC Center and SLO Campus Instructional Building reflect the District’s goals and project intent. The project agreement for construction management services with Blach Construction is not to exceed $124,930.

The SLO Campus Instructional Building will be two-stories and approximately 32,000 square feet, while the NCC Center will be 44,000 square feet and also two stories. Ground is expected to be broken on these projects in winter 2015.

Funds for the design, bidding and construction of all projects are derived from the proceeds of the District’s Measure L bond. On November 4, 2014, the voters of San Luis Obispo County passed Measure L, a $275M bond measure that authorizes funding for needed repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects to the district’s campuses.

The Cuesta College Board of Trustees is currently seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders which will serve as the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC) for the implementation of the district’s Measure L school facilities bond program. Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2015, for consideration. The committee will consist of at least seven members. For more information and to apply for the committee, please visit www.cuesta.edu and click on the Measure L button.
