Cuesta Rodeo team ranked first in West Coast

Cuesta Rodeo Student Athletes Rank #14 in nation

–After recently competing in Casper, WY, at the College National Finals Rodeo, the Cuesta College Rodeo Club Men’s Team ranks 14th in the nation and number one in the West Coast Region. Six Rodeo Club student athletes participated in the national intercollegiate competition June 11-17, facing off against hundreds of the best college rodeo athletes in the nation. The results from the competition are as follows:

Men’s Team All-Around: 14th place
Will Centoni: Saddle Bronc Riding 8th place, Bull Riding 17th place, Team Roping 32nd place
Caden Clay: Team Roping 32nd place
Tim Dietrick: Saddle Bronc Riding 34th place
Sterling Humphrey: Steer Wrestling 13th place
Dalton Pearce: Team Roping 24th place
Tristan Ruffoni: Team Roping 24th place

“Last year, the Cuesta College Rodeo Club placed 19th in the nation, so we are pleased to see our students improving on the national stage,” said Cuesta College Rodeo Club Head Coach Clint Pearce. “I am especially proud of our go-around wins and placing by many team members at nationals. Tristan and Dalton won the first go-around of the team roping, Will won fifth in the first go-around of saddle bronc riding, and Sterling won fifth in the third go-around of the steer wrestling. This is only our third year of having an organized Rodeo Club that is sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, so our results are truly pretty remarkable.”

The Rodeo Club, formed in the fall of 2014 via the Associated Students of Cuesta College (ASCC), consists of approximately 30 members who are both passionate about rodeo and dedicated to their education; each member is a full-time Cuesta College student. The club works closely with Cal Poly’s Rodeo Team and many club members ultimately transfer to the university; this fall, nine Cuesta Rodeo Club students plan to attend Cal Poly.
