Cuesta spring semester starts Jan 16
–Cuesta College’s spring semester begins Jan 16 and students can continue signing up for classes through Jan 28. Many courses are still available in areas such as agriculture business, anthropology, business, drama, English, film, TV and electronic media, mathematics, philosophy, and more. Courses are offered at three locations (the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus in Paso Robles, and the South County Center at Arroyo Grande High School), online, and through dual enrollment through local high schools. The spring semester runs through May 18.
The college also offers a variety of short courses that run between three and 17 weeks, and some that can be completed in two weeks or less. For a look at full course availability, go to the Cuesta College website and click Find Classes.
This spring, the South County Center is once again offering a mix of courses, including traditional college courses that apply toward college degrees and transfer, courses for students who are still in high school that apply toward high school credit and/or college credit, and GED preparation non-credit courses for residents without a high school diploma. For adults in all areas of San Luis Obispo County, the college offers free Emeritus College non-credit courses. Course topics include composing your life story, creative writing for seniors, creative cooking, explorations in art, reminiscing, and more. More information is on the Emeritus College webpage.
New this spring is the opening of two new Measure L bond-funded buildings. The San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building opens on Jan 16. The Instructional Building is a 32,000 square foot, two-story structure comprised of eight high-capacity multi-discipline classrooms capable of serving up to 50 students each. It also contains one forum-sized classroom with a full capacity of 80 students and faculty offices. The new North County Campus Center opens later in the semester. The 43,000 square foot, two-story structure will house a variety of student services, such as counseling, admissions and records, and financial aid, plus the cafeteria, bookstore, and health center. For the first two weeks of school between Jan 16-30, Cuesta College students can take advantage of free Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and South County Transit (SCT) rides. Routes 12 and 14 serve the San Luis Obispo Campus. Route 9 serves the North County Campus and is free to students year-round. Students need only to show their college ID or a copy of a student schedule to obtain free bus service. For more information, visit the Cuesta College Transportation webpage.
