Dale Evers’ newest creation: The Hornado

Known for putting a spin on all things creative, Dale Evers has out spun himself this time with his newest installation, “The Hornado”. The metal fabricated sculpture resides outside of Dale Evers Studio in downtown Paso and is a whopping 12 feet tall. “Go big or go home” has become a mantra for Evers. With a 24 foot sculpture of his signature piece “Focus” out at Sculpterra Winery, and a 22-foot dragonfly with a 10-foot wingspan in Tin City, he has distinguished himself for doing impressive, large works of art.

The Hornado has been hidden away inside the artist’s mind for nearly a decade and now, finally, has spun its way out of the artist’s working studio and onto 10th Street. Evers and his business partner of 35 years, Tim Anderson, have been welding the twister of musical notes and horns together piece by piece. The Hornado outgrew their workspace very quickly and so a lot of the fabrication process has taken place outdoors. Many Paso Robles residents have commented on loving being able to view the progress every time they drive past the studio.

The sculpture incorporates all the brass instruments, including tubas, trombones, saxophones, flutes, and more, which the artist has been accumulating for years, specifically for this project. The before mentioned musical notes are bent into motion and enforced by a stainless steel rod.

The spiral is most dense at the bottom, and launches up from the ground in an organic, elegant stream of visual sound that ends off with a trombone at the top. A total of 20 brass instruments are already welded into place. Although the sculpture is close to completion, it is still a work in progress. The artist still plans on adding more notes and instruments.

This new exhibit is displayed alongside Evers’ other works and can be viewed Monday-Friday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. during working hours at 1000 Park Street in downtown Paso Robles.
