Dale Wendel Nethercutt dies at 84
Dale Wendel Nethercutt, resident of Paso Robles, formerly of Monte Sereno, passed away after a brief illness on Feb. 2, 2018 at the age of 84. Born in Seminole, Oklahoma on November 20, 1933, he was the second of four children born to Ancel and Lucille Nethercutt.
At the age of six, his family moved to San Francisco where Dale grew up and developed a passion for sports, in particular golf and baseball. Dale graduated from Mission High School in 1952 and SFSU in 1957. After college while working for General Mills in San Francisco, he met Anita, his wife to be of over 50 years. They were married on May 8, 1960 and ultimately settled in Monte Sereno a few years later. They were blessed with two sons, Jeffrey and Gregory.
He later returned to school earning a teaching credential from San Jose State University. He went on to a distinguished teaching career with over 27 years at Andrew Hill High School. Dale was awarded several accolades and was highly regarded by his peers and students. He was a mentor to many, starting a Christian club for students and tutoring special needs children in after school programs. Dale also coached the Varsity golf team for a number of years going on to win WVAL Championship in 1977.
He loved spending time with his boys and creating precious memories like camping trips to the Pinnacles. Later in life he was the stalwart family man, never missing an event with his nieces and nephews, and trips to visit family in Reno and Texas. He was well known for keeping in touch with family in writing also, whether it was a birthday card, or latest sports figure update, to sending out letters to his cousins with the latest happenings. Probably with his favorite Frankie Lane playing in the background!
Dale is survived by his son Gregory (Sayaka), his sister Karen Ashcraft, brother George Nethercutt, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Anita and son Jeffrey. True to his faith in Christ, Dale was a compassionate, unwavering caregiver to his ailing wife for many years before her passing. His caring for others and unbridled sense of humor and laughter will be cherished and missed greatly.
A private burial service has been held. Friends and family members are invited to a celebration of Dale’s life on Sunday, Apr. 15 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Further details can be obtained from Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home Paso Robles (805) 238-4383.
