Local woman’s body found at site of Highway 1 repair work

Update: Section of Highway 1 washes out at Rat Creek on Big Sur Coast

–On Wednesday at about 10:30 a.m., the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body located near Rat Creek and Highway 1 in Big Sur.

Deputies responded and discovered the deceased body of 64-year-old Nancy Lynn Algert, a resident of Templeton. It appears Algert had parked her vehicle near the construction site of the wash out on Hwy 1 near Rat Creek and got out on foot, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Algert apparently went around the job site fencing and had been walking around the area., the sheriff’s office reports. At this time there does not appear to be any foul play and an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

Contractor crews for Caltrans had discovered the body after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Caltrans spokesman Kevin Drabinski. “Workers immediately called 911 and construction was brought to a halt,” he said. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office conducted their inquiry and the body was removed from the area, he said. “We were given clearance by the Sheriff’s office and roadwork has resumed this morning, March 25.”
