Submissions due Friday, April 22; winning entry will display in U.S. Capitol for one year

– This week, Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara) is encouraging all high school artists from the Central Coast to enter the 2022 Congressional Art Competition before next Friday’s deadline.

Every spring since 1982, the U.S. House of Representatives has sponsored a nationwide high school arts contest designed to encourage and recognize the talents of young artists nationwide. Entries to the 2022 competition are due by Friday, April 22.

Entries can be submitted on the congressman’s website here.

The winning entry from California’s 24th Congressional District will be placed on display at the U.S. Capitol for the year with other winning entries from each congressional district. The winner of the competition will be provided two round-trip airline tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend the unveiling ceremony with Members of Congress and special guests. Three honorable mention entries will also be on display in each of Congressman Carbajal’s offices.

Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26” x 26” x 4”, including the frame. The artwork may be paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, collages, or photography.

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution. Submission instructions can be found here.
