Disaster airlift team operations manager to speak at Estrella Warbirds Museum dinner
Dinner on July 2 will be catered, and reservations are required by 6 p.m. on Monday, June 30
– The Estrella Warbirds Museum will host Glenn Johnson as the guest speaker for their monthly dinner on Wednesday, July 2. Johnson will discuss the new Central Coast Disaster Airlift Response Team (DART), which is based at the Paso Robles Airport.
“California residents share several things in common. We are no strangers to disasters, we never know what form they will take, or when they will happen,” said Johnson. “When they do strike, it is good to know that there are organizations that will step in to help with the response and recovery issues that have to be dealt with to protect those affected.”
Johnson, Operations Manager of Central Coast DART, will explain the mission of the organization, the potential need for DART services in San Luis Obispo County, and how both pilots and non-pilots can contribute to disaster airlifts.
A private pilot based at the Paso Robles Airport, Johnson leads three different Central Coast aviation non-profit organizations. In addition to founding Central Coast DART, he serves as Deputy Commander of Civil Air Patrol Squadron #103 in San Luis Obispo and Chairman of the Paso Robles Pilots Association.
By day, Johnson works as a manufacturing, engineering, project, and facilities manager, with 25 years of experience in aerospace design and manufacturing at The Boeing Company, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin, and Eaton. He also holds a Part-107 remote pilot certificate. Johnson, who graduated from Cal Poly in 1999, has lived locally for 15 years with his wife and 17-year-old son. In his free time, he enjoys tending to his property, working on amateur radio projects, teaching aerospace and manufacturing to local youth, and dirt-biking.
The dinner on July 2 will be catered, and reservations are required by 6 p.m. on Monday, June 30. The price is $25 per person, and reservations can be made online at www.ewarbirds.org/museum/reservations.shtml, or by calling (805) 296-1935.
