    – The California Department of Motor Vehicles launched online renewal for commercial driver’s licenses on Tuesday as part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s effort to improve state services. Eligible commercial driver’s license holders can now renew online up to 120 days before their renewal date.

The DMV said the secure, paperless renewal option allows eligible drivers to complete the process without visiting an office. The agency said the service reflects its effort to modernize by expanding online tasks.

“Our commercial drivers keep California’s economy moving,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “This new online renewal service is another step in making DMV services faster, easier and available without a trip to the office.”

The DMV said the new online renewal system protects customer information, allows various payment methods and can be completed on a mobile device, desktop or tablet. Customers can upload required documents, such as Transportation Security Administration clearance and medical exam records, as part of the paperless process.

The DMV has encouraged customers to use online services and other channels to complete tasks such as driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. Many transactions, including simple self-service tasks, no longer require an office visit. Customers can use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to find available online services.

To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices, customers can create a secure online account and register at dmv.ca.gov.
