Downtown City Park playground renovation to begin

The Paso Robles Recreation Enhances Community (REC Foundation) in partnership with the City of Paso Robles, announced this week the beginning of the long-awaited renovation of the Downtown City Park and playground area.

With an initial $10,000 commitment to the playground project several years ago, the REC Foundation has raised $29,700 through its popular Summer Concerts in the Park series and $40,100 in private donations. Together with an additional $25,000 grant, the REC Foundation will contribute $94,800 toward the effort.

Additionally, the City of Paso Robles has been granted $804,450 from the California Department of Housing and Community Development Housing- Related Parks Program to go toward the rehabilitation of the Downtown City Park, which will include the playground area. These funds are to be used by June 30, 2016.

The REC Foundation is seeking additional funding for a park endowment account to cover ongoing maintenance of the new playground. Individuals who donate to the endowment by March 1 will be recognized throughout the playground by permanent displays of brick pavers, medallions, and signs.

The REC Foundation is a non-profit fundraising corporation committed to creating enhanced programs, places, and open spaces for quality recreational experiences in Paso Robles. Those interested in giving to the Playground Project can do so by visiting the REC Foundation website, www.recfoundation.com or by calling City of Paso Robles Recreation Manager, Lynda Holt, at (805) 237-3987.

More donations come in for city park
