Driver airlifted after crash near Monterey County line

    – A single-vehicle crash on Indian Valley Road near the Monterey County line near San Miguel on Tuesday afternoon resulted in major injuries to the driver, according to the California Highway Patrol Templeton Area office.

Between approximately 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup driven by a woman about 30 years old veered off the west edge of the roadway while traveling north on Indian Valley Road. The circumstances remain under investigation.

A passerby spotted the vehicle at the bottom of a steep cliff and called 911. Emergency responders arrived and extricated the driver, who had sustained suspected major injuries. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle entered a curve, left the roadway, and rolled multiple times down the cliffside before coming to rest upright in a grassy field facing north.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was airlifted by Coastal Division California Highway Patrol helicopter paramedics to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment.

Investigators said alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor. No other vehicles were involved, and the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol Templeton Area office at (805) 400-6720.
