Driver arrested after crashing on pedestrian bridge in San Luis Obispo

Woman arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run

    – Officers from the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded early Friday at around 1 a.m. to a report of an SUV stopped in the middle of Smith Street, off Johnson Avenue, with major damage and no front tire.

Officers followed gouges in the pavement and a debris trail leading back to the pedestrian bridge between the Monday Club and San Luis Drive. The investigation determined that the driver, a 30-year-old woman and resident of San Luis Obispo, had attempted to cross the bridge in the vehicle but was unsuccessful. She then drove over a mile before stopping on Smith Street.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run. Officers found car parts on the pedestrian bridge and a section of the bridge railing broken off and in the creek.
