Ellen Beraud raises $100,000 in first campaign finance report for 5th District County Supervisor

–New campaign contribution disclosures released this week show that 5th District Supervisor challenger Ellen Beraud raised $101,293 in total contributions in four months.

“This campaign is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we are seeing, but this isn’t about me,” said Ellen on seeing the results. “There’s a yearning for good government – for sane water policy, for sane environmental policy. This is the community’s way of pushing back and making it clear that they’re ready for change.”

“Our current Board of Supervisors is dysfunctional, and the incumbent has been consistently putting politics over what’s best for the county. These donations tell us that people are fed up with how the Board has been operating. They’re ready to be heard – you can’t try to force a gravel mine upon a community of people who have consistently made their position clear.”

Ellen has been funding her campaign through hundreds of small dollar donations from people of all walks of life. In just four months, Ellen received 561 monetary contributions averaging $161 each, and nearly 85-percent of her donations were $100 or less. The vast majority of these donations have come from meet and greets, online giving, and low-ticket priced community fundraisers, as opposed to special interest groups and high-dollar fundraisers.

This surge of support from SLO County residents culminated in a late June match fundraiser, raising nearly $25,000 in the two weeks before the reporting deadline.

“I’m running for supervisor to bring an experienced, independent voice to the Board of Supervisors,” said Ellen. “This support shows that our message is resonating with people, but we’re really just getting started. I plan on continuing to meet with voters across the district to learn how we can make our county work better for everyone.”

Ellen Beraud is a former Atascadero mayor and City Council member, a small business owner, and a healthcare professional at Atascadero State Hospital. Ellen has been active in the North County community for more than 20 years. SLO County’s 5th District includes Atascadero, Santa Margarita, the California Valley, and part of the city of San Luis Obispo. The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.
