European agricultural technology company demonstrates robotics in Paso Robles
Saga Robotics is considering establishing a U.S. base of operations in Paso Robles
– Saga Robotics, a European agricultural technology company, recently demonstrated its advanced robotic technology to a group of grape growers in Paso Robles, according to the latest edition of the City of Paso Robles Economic Development Newsletter. The robots use ultraviolet (UV) light to treat plant leaves for powdery mildew, reducing the need for chemical fungicides.
Saga Robotics currently operates primarily in the United Kingdom, where their robots treat strawberries. The company now accounts for 10% of the UK’s strawberry market.
The all-electric, self-driving robots use GPS and LiDAR to map vineyards or strawberry rows. These digital maps can be stored and shared among multiple robot units. The robots begin their work shortly after sunset and operate through the night, returning autonomously to charging stations during the day.
Saga Robotics is considering establishing a U.S. base of operations in Paso Robles, focusing on the wine industry, according to the newsletter.
