Excessive heat warning in effect for Paso Robles
– The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for San Luis Obispo County and surrounding areas, which remains in effect until 8 p.m. today. The warning includes dangerously hot temperatures ranging from 95 to 107 degrees. Warm overnight lows will offer little relief from the heat.
The affected areas include the Antelope Valley, Eastern Antelope Valley Foothills, San Luis Obispo County interior valleys, San Luis Obispo County mountains, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Ynez Valley, Southern Salinas Valley, and Western Antelope Valley Foothills.
The high temperatures pose a significant risk for heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and individuals who are active outdoors.
Authorities urge residents to take precautions such as drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces, and avoiding sun exposure. It’s also recommended to check on relatives and neighbors during the extreme heat.
People are advised not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes. When outdoors, residents should wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. If symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke appear, immediate action should be taken.
The forecast predicts a high of 106 degrees on Saturday, 104 on Sunday, and 99 on Monday. Cooler temperatures are expected by Tuesday, with a forecasted high of 83 degrees.
