Executive Director steps down from position at Museum of Art
–The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art has announced that Ruta Saliklis has stepped down, for personal reasons, as Executive Director and Curator of the Museum. While at SLOMA, Saliklis planned and curated scores of thought-provoking and powerful exhibitions over the nearly nine years she was associated with the museum. The Board of Directors says they are grateful to Saliklis for her invaluable contributions to the museum’s artistic legacy.
According to Board President David Coburn, “Without question, the quality and diversity of art exhibitions improved dramatically under the guidance of Ruta Saliklis.”
Following the retirement last May of Karen Kile as Executive Director, Saliklis was appointed first as Interim Executive Director and within a few months took on the role of Executive Director, following a unanimous vote by the museum’s board of directors.
SLOMA has tapped Maryellen Simkins to assume the role of Interim Executive Director until a full-time executive director can be hired. Simkins, a skilled administrator and human resources professional, will manage the museum’s day-to-day operations and lead the search for a new executive director. Previously, Simkins served as interim executive director for the Central Coast Natural History Association, and more recently for the San Luis Obispo Symphony.
“With Ms. Simkins’ appointment, we look forward to keeping operations running smoothly, and engaging in a successful search for a new, full-time Executive Director,” said Coburn.
Board president Coburn said that no changes are anticipated to the current slate of SLOMA’s exhibitions and activities.
