Fatal victim not yet identified
– The California Highway Patrol has released additional information regarding the fatal crash that occurred Monday in North County.
The driver was killed in the solo vehicle crash that occurred on Creston Road south of Camp 8 Road on Feb. 3.
Officers responded to a call at approximately 4:24 p.m. reporting a vehicle that had crashed and caught fire. Witnesses reported that the vehicle, a 2005 Ford Escape, was fully engulfed in flames by the time authorities arrived.
Investigators determined the driver, who has not yet been identified, was traveling northbound on Creston Road at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control when the vehicle left the east roadway edge. Attempts to regain control were unsuccessful, and the vehicle collided with an oil pipe fence just east of the roadway before catching fire.
The driver was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Luis Obispo County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the individual.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Templeton office.
