Female passenger dies in accident on Highway 46 

highway 46 accident–An unidentified female passenger died in an accident on Highway 46 just west of Lucy Brown Road Tuesday evening at 6:05 p.m. according to California Highway Patrol. There were six other passengers in the SUV that sustained minor injuries.

Driver Hugo Sanchez Carillo was driving his Toyota Sequoia SUV westbound on SR 46 East just west of Lucy Brown Road at a speed of approximately 65 mph. Driver Carillo made an unsafe turning movement veering from an otherwise straight path of travel. The vehicle crossed over the median and rolled over multiple times landing on its wheels and was blocking the eastbound lanes of traffic. The unidentified female passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

CHP responded to the scene along with Cal Fire and San Luis Ambulance. Driver Carillo received major injuries and was transported by CHP helicopter to the trauma center at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. Six other unidentified passengers received minor to moderate injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton. The ejected female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. This collision is currently being investigated by the California Highway Patrol as being DUI related.
