Fire contained at Templeton recycling center
Fire was caused by lithium-ion batteries
– A debris fire broke out Thursday afternoon at the Waste Management Recycling Facility on La Cruz Way, prompting a full commercial response from multiple fire agencies, according to a press release from Templeton Fire.
Templeton Fire & Emergency Services responded at 3:50 p.m. after onsite staff reported the fire. Firefighters arrived to find a large amount of trash and debris both inside and outside the transfer area. Additional resources were requested to prevent the fire from spreading into the building.
The fire was contained within 30 minutes, though crews remained on the scene for two additional hours to conduct heavy overhaul operations due to the large amount of debris. Ten personnel responded to the fire, including units from Templeton Fire, Cal Fire, and Atascadero Fire.
The fire originated in the facility’s transfer station area and was caused by lithium-ion batteries, according to fire officials. No injuries or property losses were reported.
Templeton Fire & Emergency Services reminded the public to properly dispose of lithium-ion batteries to prevent similar incidents.
