Fire crews to conduct wildfire readiness drill at Camp Roberts
Live-fire drill focuses on coordination and tactical wildfire response
– The San Luis Obispo County Fire Service Training Officers Association, in coordination with the XSL Incident Management Team and local agency partners, will conduct a full-scale Wildland Urban Interface drill at Camp Roberts on Tuesday, May 27.
The drill will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is intended to enhance operational readiness and improve interagency coordination and communication ahead of the fire season. The training will include live-fire elements and simulate realistic wildland fire conditions.
Participants will engage in four tactical skill stations focusing on structure defense, firing operations, mobile attack with water drafting, and aerial ignition platform orientation. The event is designed for trained personnel and is considered an advanced exercise to reinforce tactical response in a dynamic environment.
Smoke from the exercise will be visible in surrounding areas, including along Highway 101. Drivers are advised to use caution on the roadways.
