Fire officials will burn 25 acres near Santa Margarita this week
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding areas
– The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in San Luis Obispo, in coordination with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council, will conduct a prescribed burn on Tuesday, May 27.
The operation will begin around 10 a.m. and will take place on approximately 25 acres of private land located about 20 minutes east of Santa Margarita, on Seven Oaks Way between Las Pilitas Road and Parkhill Road.
The prescribed burn is part of the department’s ongoing Vegetation Management Program. Officials said the purpose is to reduce the buildup of flammable vegetation that contributes to large-scale wildfires. The burn is also intended to support long-term ecological health by promoting native species and improving biodiversity in the area.
Fire personnel will remain on site throughout the operation, and officials said every precaution will be taken to carry out the burn safely under favorable weather conditions.
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding areas. Residents are advised not to report the fire unless there is an emergency unrelated to the prescribed burn.
