Fire Safe Council to hold free chipping events on North Coast

Child pulled from burning car, two injured after crash Sunday

    – Cal Fire San Luis Obispo Unit and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council will host two free chipping events in October for residents in wildfire-prone areas of Cambria and Los Osos.

The Cambria event will take place on Oct. 14, and the Los Osos event will take place on Oct. 21. The events are funded by the Fire Safe Council of San Luis Obispo County, with additional support from the Cambria Fire Safe Focus Group.

Residents who live in Moderate, High, or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones within Cambria or Los Osos are eligible to participate.

Chipping helps reduce flammable vegetation around homes and lowers the risk of wildfire spread in surrounding neighborhoods.

Residents can check their eligibility by using the interactive map at www.chipperday.com/slofsc, where sign-ups are currently open. Space is limited, and reservations are first-come, first-served.
