Fire training exercise takes place at Camp Roberts

–Camp Roberts Fire Department, along with several other fire departments in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, gathered together Friday to conduct a controlled burn on Camp Roberts property.
In speaking with Camp Roberts Fire Chief John Nielsen, Nielsen said this is a training exercise that takes place every year in the month of May to prepare firefighters and their departments for the upcoming fire season.
Chief Nielsen went on to say that a total of 7,000 acres of land was burned in the training exercise, and that nobody needs to be alarmed or afraid of this type of training. Chief Nielsen has been Camp Roberts Fire Chief for the past 4 years and says that he enjoys working with firefighters within SLO county as well as other statewide agencies.
