Firefighters extinguish fire in house attic
– On Wednesday at approximately 1:44 p.m., Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services firefighters responded to a reported single-family residential structure fire at 261 Scott St. in Paso Robles. While firefighters were in route, Paso Robles Police officers at the scene relayed that all occupants were out of the residence.
Firefighters arrived at the scene in six minutes to discover light smoke emitting from a powered roof ventilator. Engine crews made entry into the structure to find light smoke. The interior attic space was accessed and firefighters found a small fire in the powered ventilator that had dropped down onto a lower truss member that was burning.
The fire was extinguished and adjacent roofing material was peeled away to check for extension. Operations by the firefighters at scene stopped the fire from further spreading, limiting heat and smoke damage to the home.
The residence was occupied at the time of the fire. No firefighters or community members were injured.
During the incident Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services received two additional incidents for EMS related problems. Mutual aid was requested to handle them and units at scene were redirected. The city responders were assisted by Cal Fire San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, Templeton CSD Fire Department and Atascadero Fire Department.
The cause of the fire was determined to be isolated to the powered roof ventilator. Minor fire damage to the surrounding roof material. The dollar damage estimate is $2,000, according to firefighters.
