–A vegetation fire was reported Friday morning alongside Niblick Road near Highway 101. A large plume of smoke filled the skies around the blaze.
Firefighters from Paso Robles and Cal Fire San Luis Obispo to a fire at a homeless camp in the Salinas riverbed. The first report of the fire came in at about 7:30 am.
Firefighters responded quickly and contained it to less than an acre. Firefighters called off aircraft support and were moving on to extinguish hot spots. A lack of wind and cold temperatures aided the firefighters’ efforts.
Paso Robles Battalion Chief Jay Enns said they identified other homeless camps in the area behind Kohl’s department store. Crews were called in to remove debris and camping equipment from those transient encampments.
No injuries were reported in the fire suppression efforts.
