Firefighters help resident, dog escape Paso Robles duplex fire
Investigators determined that smoking caused the fire
– Firefighters contained a fire at a Paso Robles duplex to its deck and exterior Wednesday afternoon, according to a release from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.
The department responded at about 1:56 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 324 Vine St. The first firefighters to arrive found light smoke coming from a raised-foundation duplex at 522 Fourth St.
The fire started on an outside deck and spread into nearby vegetation. One unit was occupied at the time, and firefighters helped the resident and her dog exit the building and reach the street.
Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading into the attic.
Paso Robles sent one fire engine, one truck, one squad, and one battalion chief. Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County sent one fire engine and one battalion chief under the City of Paso Robles’ automatic aid agreements.
A total of 12 firefighters responded. The Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Ambulance Service also assisted.
Investigators determined that smoking caused the fire.
