Firestone Walker to cut emissions with $7.3 million grant
Expansion will help the company eliminate 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually
– Firestone Walker Incorporated in Paso Robles, California, has been awarded $7.3 million by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to enhance its use of solar energy. This funding is part of a broader $33 million initiative supporting nine projects across seven states aimed at advancing concentrating solar-thermal (CST) technologies.
Firestone Walker will use the grant to implement thermal solar energy systems to generate steam for its brewery operations. This expansion will help the company eliminate 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, furthering its commitment to sustainable practices.
The announcement aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, which seeks to promote clean energy technologies. “Under the Biden-Harris Administration, DOE continues to invest in the next-generation solar technologies we need to tackle the climate crisis and ensure American scientific innovation remains the envy of the world,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.
This project is part of a larger effort to advance CST technologies, which use mirrors to concentrate sunlight for producing clean fuels, heat, and energy storage. The initiative supports DOE’s goals of reducing dependency on fossil fuels and advancing the domestic clean hydrogen industry.
