Fidget spinners are the latest fad with children of all ages, helping to keep fidgety hands busy and minds clear. This new toy has spawned a modern movement of writers, adults, and teachers who revel in the power of these new toys.  Honoring “all things fidget spinners” a special event, Fidget Con, will take place in the big barn at the Los Osos Community Center, located at 2180 Palisades Ave, in Los Osos, on Nov. 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

“We wanted to invent a conference where parents and children can see the different fidget spinners and compete in fidget games,” stated Teri Bayus, event coordinator for Fidget Con. “This free to the public event should be a different and wonderful afternoon of exploration and talent.”

Activities planned for the day include: fidget spinner races, various fidget spinner-making crafts, a best tricks contest, fidget fortunes, and a bounce house for the kids. In addition, the world’s largest fidget spinner collection will be on display, a fidget mascot will greet and pose for photos with guests, and a raffle will be held for a drone and other special prizes. Cookies and other refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds from the event benefiting the Stand For Trees campaign.

“My grandkids were worried about all the trees that fell this year and asked if they could do an event with me to raise money to save the trees,” said Bayus. “A fidget conference was born out of that idea, and all proceeds go to Stand For Trees. Bring your fidget spinner game, or see amazing tricks by professional fidget spinners.”

A panel of professional judges will oversee the competitions and prizes will be handed out to all participants. Tricks will be judged on creativity and execution, and there will also be a timed spin contest for kids of all ages. About Fidget Spinners

A fidget spinner is a toy that consists of a ball-bearing in the center of a multi-lobed flat structure made from metal or plastic designed to spin along its axis with little effort. Fidget spinners became popular in April 2017, although similar devices had been invented as early as 1993. The popularity of the toy among children and teenagers has led some schools to ban use of the spinners in class for being a distraction, while other schools have allowed the toy to be used discreetly.

The toy has been advertised as helping people who have trouble with focusing or fidgeting by relieving nervous energy or psychological stress. There are claims that a fidget spinner can be used to help calm people who suffer from anxiety and neurological disorders.
