Former Bearcat helps Cal Poly reach Super Regionals
Carson Turnquist earned his seventh straight win as the Mustangs swept through the UCLA Regional
– The Cal Poly Mustangs baseball team won the UCLA Regionals in Westwood over the weekend to advance to the Super Regionals.
Former Bearcat Carson Turnquist won his seventh consecutive game. Carson pitched Saturday to the St. Mary’s Gaels. The Mustangs won that game 14-1. Carson pitched six innings. He allowed five hits and one run, but gave up no walks. He struck out seven Gaels. Sunday evening, Cal Poly beat St. Mary’s 5-2 in the double elimination tournament. The Gaels beat UCLA twice to eliminate them from the regionals. On Friday, Cal Poly beat Virginia Tech 6-2.
Strong pitching from three starters and home runs by Ryan Tayman of Grover Beach and Cam Hoiland allowed Cal Poly to sweep the UCLA Regionals.
The Mustangs are making their first trip to the Super Regionals. They will play either West Virginia or Kentucky. The winner of the Super Regionals will advance to the College World Series in Omaha.
