Free social services available today at Paso Robles Event Center

Service organizations unite to provide Mobile Assistance for Homeless

–In what organizers hope will be an annual or bi-annual event, Mobile Assistance Services for the Homeless, or MASH, will welcome all veterans, homeless, and those in need of assistance to a free event at the Paso Robles Event Center on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The MASH project will be held in the Estrella Building on the grounds of the Event Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All services, including a hot lunch served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be provided free of charge.

“We understand that it can be difficult for those in need to get to various service providers so we are bringing the services to them. We will have over 22 different services providers who can help you with your needs,” said Cherie Michaelson, volunteer coordinator.

CAPSLO will have information on Veterans Affairs and tattoo removal; the folks from CHC will be giving flu shots, vaccines, and wellness checks from their mobile unit; representatives from the DMV will be issuing identification cards, and Social Services will be on hand to assist people with signing up for benefits. In addition, ECHO Shelter will have information and hygiene kits; Supercuts will provide haircuts, and there will be groceries from the Food Bank.

Other services and information available will include drug and alcohol counseling from Victory Outreach; fire safety information courtesy of the Paso Robles City Fire Department and Cal Fire; Veterans Services and EDD with information on benefits and employment for veterans, and RISE with information on women’s services. There will be outreach available from Transitions Mental Health, Victory Outreach and North County Connections; lunch from People’s Kitchen; family information from the Office of Education and Department of Child Support, and blood pressure checks from CenCal Health.

Volunteers will be on hand to help send photos and letters to loved ones from Letters Home, Animal Services will be providing vaccines and licenses for pets, and there will be a raffle for a bike as well.

“All of these services are being provided to enhance the quality of people’s lives and make things better for them,” said Michaelson. “We are equipped to handle 300 people – let us help you get the services that you need.”

To help direct more people to the event on Wednesday, Christ’s Kitchen will be closed for lunch, according to Michaelson. People’s Kitchen, however will be open in the evening to provide dinner as usual.
