Fundraiser launched after local motocross racer paralyzed in crash
Fundraiser established to assist Brycen and Kayla Killion with medical expenses
– Brycen Killion, a 27-year-old San Luis Obispo County local, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Dec. 13 that left him paralyzed from the chest down, according to information provided by family and friends.
Killion sustained a broken neck, back, and sternum while riding with friends near Lopez Lake. He was riding on a track he was familiar with when he went headfirst into a tree and suffered a severe spinal injury.
Killion underwent emergency surgery at Sierra Vista Medical Center to stabilize his spine and has begun what is expected to be a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Killion and his wife, Kayla Killion, are newlyweds who were married in May. Both were born and raised in Atascadero and began dating while attending junior high school together. They graduated from Atascadero High School and later completed college at Northern Arizona University before returning to San Luis Obispo in 2020.
Since returning to San Luis Obispo, Killion has worked as a construction project manager for Granite Construction, and his wife has worked as a preschool and elementary school teacher.
Killion has raced motorcycles for most of his life and is involved in off-road motocross racing. He also volunteers as a race mechanic for local professional motorcycle racers who compete in supercross and motocross events.
A fundraiser has been established to assist Brycen and Kayla Killion with medical expenses related to the injury.
