Fundraiser launched for local barber after stroke, hospital stay
– Community members are raising funds through a GoFundMe page to support Eddie, a longtime barber at Nick’s Barber Shop in Paso Robles, who is currently recovering after suffering a stroke.
According to the GoFundMe page, Eddie experienced a hemorrhagic stroke last week while at work. He drove himself to the emergency room, where doctors identified the condition. He was then airlifted to a nearby hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. His hospital stay could last up to three weeks, with an undetermined recovery period following discharge.
Eddie has worked as a barber in Paso Robles and the greater Fresno area for more than 30 years. Known for his consistent presence in the community, many residents recognized his blue pickup truck parked outside the shop.
“Eddie has a heart of gold and is always the first to reach for some extra cash when others are in need and it’s our turn as a community to help his family now if we are able,” reads the fundraiser.
The online fundraiser states that Eddie faces mounting medical bills and will be out of work during his recovery. His wife, Patrica, and their children have been supporting him during this time.
The GoFundMe page is accepting donations and includes updates on upcoming support events. Organizers noted that a community barbecue is being planned for Saturday, May 31.
As of Thursday morning, the fundraiser had brought in $1,243 of a $5,000 goal.
