A barbecue chicken dinner will be prepared by Paso Catering, with wine being poured by Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards. Adult tickets are $25; ages 6-16, $15; children under free may attend and eat for free. One glass of wine is included with each adult ticket (over 21 years of age), with additional glasses of wine available for $5. Checks and cash only, with tickets available day of the event; credit cards will not be accepted.

The major benefactor of the event, the Father Bede House of Prayer, was started by Brother Michael J. Phillips, OCS, known as Brother Michael among those he serves. A 1969 graduate of Lillian Larson in San Miguel and1973 graduate of Paso Robles High School, Phillips says, “I am a monk in the world; I have no religious affiliation. I am a man of Peace and a servant of God; I am about compassion and love.”

In addition to serving the needy and homeless in various capacities, Phillips started and oversees a feeding program in Paso Robles – the Paso Robles Casserole Club. The club, which came into existence in December of 2016, has served more than 4,000 meals to those in need since its inception.

“Thanks to the work of 40-plus volunteers that purchase food items, make meals, and serve those meals day in and day out,” said Phillips, “we continue to help those we have been called to serve.”

The Sept. 9 fundraiser is hosted by The Father Bede House of Prayer in conjunction with Higher Dimensions Church of Templeton and First United Methodist Church of Paso Robles. Of the funds raised, 50 percent will be going to the feeding program and 50 percent to the development program for a tiny house project focused on caring for the medically-fragile sector of the homeless population in San Luis Obispo County. The plan, according to Phillips, is to build 12 tiny houses.

“Please join us and the fundraiser and help support the needs of those we serve,” said Phillips.”We do not and will not write for federal, state, county, or city grants. This must be a movement of love. We already have three pledged tiny houses and two tentative pledges. If this fundraiser is a success, we will have completed over 50 percent of our 10-year development plan in less than a year. This is the ‘make it or break it’ event that will show me if we have local support. We are counting on the good people of North SLO County and beyond.”

Those interested in attending the fundraiser are asked to contact Brother Michael at (805) 286-0257 to allow for food count.
