Entries due April 1 before Earth Day celebration voting
– Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County is inviting community members to participate in the ReStore-It Challenge at its Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo ReStore locations before the entry window closes.
The hands-on upcycling challenge invites participants to purchase a pre-selected furniture piece for $20, take it home, and transform it through restoration, redesign, or other creative approaches. Participants are encouraged to document their process and share updates on social media using #ReStoreItChallenge and tagging @HabitatSLO on Instagram.
“Every day at the ReStore, we see the potential in donated items,” said Stephanie Wright, ReStores operations manager for Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County. “The ReStore-It Challenge invites our community to see that same potential, get creative, and show how reuse can be both impactful and inspiring.”
All completed pieces must be returned to a ReStore location by April 1, where they will be displayed for public voting in stores and online. Customers and community supporters will be able to vote for their favorite transformation before winners are announced during the organization’s Earth Day celebration on April 18. First-, second-, and third-place winners from each location will receive a gift card.
After voting concludes, participants may reclaim their piece or donate it for sale at the ReStore. Proceeds support the organization’s work to expand affordable homeownership opportunities.
Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County encourages participants to visit the Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo ReStore locations to purchase a furniture piece and begin the project.
Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County began building homes in 2003 and has completed 26 homes from Cambria to Grover Beach. Since 1997, the organization has built, repaired, and rehabilitated houses throughout San Luis Obispo County.
The Paso Robles ReStore is located at 844 9th St., Paso Robles. More information is available at habitatslo.org or by calling (805) 782-0687.
