Georgia Brown Student wins design competition for 'I Voted' sticker

Winning design will be printed on 10,000 stickers to be distributed at polling locations

    – Rudd Larson, a fifth-grade student at Georgia Brown Elementary School in Paso Robles, has been selected as one of three winners in the San Luis Obispo “I Voted” sticker design competition. His winning design will be printed on 10,000 stickers to be distributed at polling locations throughout the county on Election Day, Nov. 5.

The competition, hosted by the SLO County Elections Office, invited students in grades 3 through 12 to submit redesigns of the iconic “I Voted” sticker. Judges were reportedly impressed by Larson’s design, which features a joyful character with a large grin that captures the pride and excitement of participating in an election. Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano noted that Larson’s submission was the very first received and that it “makes me smile every single time I look at it.”

Cano surprised Larson in his classroom to announce his victory and presented each of his classmates with a pre-print of the sticker.

“I made the suit arms wrinkly because it’s just a regular guy. Voters are regular people,” Larson said. He added, “I wanted to emphasize the smile, so I made the eyes and nose extra small.” The character in Larson’s design is depicted wearing an “I Voted” sticker on his suit jacket.

For those eager to get their own “I Voted” sticker before Election Day, the three winning designs will be available at the San Luis Obispo and Atascadero Election Offices starting Oct. 7.
