Giants trophy will stop in Paso in February

City council approves use of park for World Series Trophy Tour on Feb. 27

sf-giants-world-series-logoThe Paso Robles Police Athletic League has requested to use Paso Robles Downtown City Park on Feb. 27 to host the San Francisco Giants 2014 World Series Trophy Tour. The league has hosted and operated the San Francisco Giants Junior Giants Youth Baseball Program every summer since 1996. According to the staff report by Police Chief Robert Burton, thousands of children have benefitted from the program in its 18 years of existence.

The trophy will be on display on Friday, Feb. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. At that time, Giants fans will have the opportunity to purchase their own photos taken with the trophy. According to the Giants Trophy Tour parameters, the league may ask for a voluntary donation of $2 from those attending to support and enhance the Junior Giants Program.

According to the report, more than 1,500 fans are expected to attend the Paso Robles event. The 2012 Trophy Tour also stopped in Paso Robles and Burton said that “the event was very much enjoyed by local and out-of-town attendees.” He wrote that when adding events to the park’s schedule, it is important that those events “recognize meaningful community activities and bring positive attention to the city.” No funding was requested for the event.

The tour — the third trophy tour held in the last four years — will kick off on Jan. 7 and include the 2014. 2012 and 2010 trophies. According to the San Francisco Giants, the focus of the tour is to share the trophies with Giants fans in Junior Giants communities.

“We saw in 2012 how powerful it was for us to create a trophy tour which not only allowed us to connect with our fans, but also with the more than 22,000 kids who participate in our Junior Giants baseball program,” Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer said. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to do so again.”

The trophy will make a stop in San Luis Obispo at the farmers’ market on March 5 from 5 to 7 p.m.
