Goleta couple dies from carbon monoxide in Cambria home

Authorities say detector in room was disconnected during fatal incident

    – Two Goleta residents were found dead Feb. 8 at a home in the 8100 block of Lone Palm Drive in Cambria, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the home for a call for service that resulted in a coroner’s case.

The deceased were identified as 53-year-old John Anthony Ruskey III and 49-year-old Kristen Kelly Ruskey, both of Goleta.

An autopsy and toxicology testing were conducted.

The San Luis Obispo County Coroner determined that John Ruskey died from the toxic effects of carbon monoxide. Kristen Ruskey died from the toxic effects of carbon monoxide and ethanol. The coroner ruled both deaths accidental.

Investigators located a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector in the room, but authorities found it disconnected.

Next of kin have been notified.

    No further information is available.
