Grace Elenor Hill dies at 101 

–Grace Eleanor Hill died peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Paso Robles the early morning hours on March 3, 2016 at the age of 101.Grace hill

Grace was born January 16, 1915 in Frank’s Switch, Missouri to Howard and Emma Miller. She, her parents and siblings (Myron and Helene) lived on her mother parents’ (Grandpa and Grandma Bartelt) farm. After completing high school she taught in a one room school house, while attending college to work on her bachelor degree. She married Ward Eldon Hill on Nov. 24, 1937.

They moved several years later to Southern California. During World War II she worked in a B-17 assembly factory. After the war she and Ward settled in central California where she begin teaching in elementary school. She completed her bachelor of arts and obtained her teaching credential through San Jose State College. The two raised four daughters (Eleanor, Diane, Cathy and Stephanie) in King City. After 30 plus years of teaching, Grace retired. Thereafter, she and Ward moved to Paso Robles. Ward passed in 1988 and Grace continued to live in Paso Robles.Grace hill 2

Hill remained active in church life. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. She also belonged to the local Optimist and Kiawanis clubs, mentored in outreach through the Epiphany Emmanuel Program to the California Youth Authority and participated in the Oak Park after-school program as well as Loaves and Fishes. She was chosen as Volunteer of the Year for the City of Paso Robles. She maintained contact with many of her former students and had many friends at Quail Run, where she resided until moving to Brookdale.

She is survived by her daughters: Eleanor Douglas (Rick), Diane (Don) Rogers, Cathy Howell and Stephanie (Dick) Loesch, her grandchildren: DeAnn, Gina, Tom, Sara, Rob, Laura, Jill, Jessica and Michael, as well as 14 great-grandchildren.
