Habitat for Humanity launches Builder’s Brew event series

Events aim to connect building community with local housing efforts

    – Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County announced a new summer event series, Builder’s Brew, with gatherings scheduled June 22, 23, 29, and 30 at its ReStore locations in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles.

The events are open to builders, contractors, architects, engineers, developers, and community members. Attendance is free, and registration is encouraged at www.habitatslo.org.

The series includes morning and evening sessions. Morning sessions will offer coffee and treats, while evening sessions will include beverages and snacks. The events are designed to provide opportunities for attendees to connect and learn about the organization’s housing efforts.

Events will be held at ReStore locations at 2790 Broad St. in San Luis Obispo and 844 9th St. in Paso Robles. Evening sessions are scheduled June 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. in San Luis Obispo and June 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Paso Robles. Morning sessions are scheduled June 29 from 7 to 9 a.m. in Paso Robles and June 30 from 7 to 9 a.m. in San Luis Obispo.

“Builder’s Brew is about bringing people together—those who build homes and those who believe in building community,” said Anthony Overton. “It’s an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and see how your skills, materials, or partnerships can make a real difference locally.”

Attendees will be invited to tour the ReStores, review building materials available for purchase, and learn how donations of new or gently used materials support the organization’s work.

The organization said participants will also learn about its Home Preservation and Aging-in-Place program, which assists low-income homeowners, seniors, and veterans with repairs and modifications intended to support safety and independence. Projects may include installing wheelchair ramps, widening doorways, adding grab bars and non-slip flooring, improving lighting, upgrading kitchens, replacing doorknobs with lever handles, and removing fall hazards. Exterior work may include landscaping clean-up and yard improvements.

Additional repairs may include sealing air leaks, replacing windows, upgrading water heaters, clearing gutters, trimming trees, removing vegetation, and repairing exterior siding. Some projects include defensible space improvements to reduce wildfire risk.

“We hope you’ll stop by to reconnect with colleagues, make new connections, and experience the ReStore in a new way,” said Dawn Smith. “Whether you’re donating materials, shopping for your next project, or exploring ways to share your expertise, Builder’s Brew is an easy and meaningful way to be part of something bigger than a build.”
