Six injured after vehicles collide on Highway 1

According to a California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Patrick Seebart, the original press release incorrectly stated the driver of the Ford carrying five people caused the collision on Highway 1 near Arroyo De La Cruz. The Mazda, driven by Jacob Vita of Coronado (27), was traveling southbound and crossed over the double yellow lines and attempted to pass four cars that were ahead of him. The Mazda collided with the Ford while the Mazda was on the wrong side of the double yellow lines.

Head-on collision reported north of Arroyo De La Cruz on Sunday

car crash–On Sunday, June 19 at 6.23 p.m. two cars were involved in a head-on collision north of Arroyo De La Cruz on Highway 1, injuring six. California Highway Patrol attended the scene.

A 2016 Mazda with a single driver traveling southbound between 50 and 55 mph collided with a 2016 Ford carrying five people, all from Hawaii, traveling northbound at about 55 mph. The driver of the Mazda was trying to pass four vehicles over double yellow lines when it collided with the Ford which braked but was unable to avoid striking the front of the vehicle.

The driver of the Mazda was identified as 27-year-old Jacob Vita of Coronado. The driver of the Ford was identified as Melekai Jenson, 32, of Haiku, and the passengers were identified as 29-year-old Elyssa Polsky of Makawao, 50-year-old Amy Polsky of Haiku, 29-year-old Moana Jenson of Haiku, and 6-year-old Dior Coleman of Makawao, HI.

Vita received a broken left foot, right ankle and head injury. The five people in the ford all reported neck, shoulder and back pain.

Drugs and or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
