Update: Head-on collision near Cholame ‘Y’ injures two, blocks traffic

Update posted Aug. 29

–Additional details have been released by CHP regarding the head-on collision that occurred near the Cholame “Y” Wednesday.

At approximately 7:28 a.m., 29-year-old Joey McGraw Jr. of San Bernadino was driving a 1999 Acura on Highway 46 West, near Antelope Road. He attempted to pass a semi-truck, but realized that he didn’t have sufficient clearance, and veered back into the Westbound lane. Because of the unsafe speed that McGraw was traveling at, he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the Eastbound lane, colliding head-on with 67-year-old Michael Klassen of Pebble Beach driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision, CHP says. The collision occurred about a mile east of the “Y” interchange.
