‘Healthy Smiles’ program now offered at Shandon Elementary

Tolosa Children’s Dental Center recently celebrated the launch of Healthy Smiles Teledentistry Program. County Supervisor John Peschong and County Superintendent Dr. Jim Brescia along with Superintendent/Principal Kristina Benson enjoyed a ribbon cutting and presentation by Executive Director Suzanne Russell and TCDC Board to open the new location.

Offering services two days a week within Shandon Elementary School, a specially trained RDHAP and assistant are able to treat students with a variety of services. The team collects dental records and provides preventive care for students while on campus. The information is sent through a secure telehealth system where the dentist establishes a diagnosis and creates a dental treatment plan.

The students stay in school, parents do not have to miss work and more local children have access to quality, consistent pediatric dental care. When children are free from active dental disease, they miss fewer days of school and are better able to learn. They also enjoy the benefits of higher-quality nutrition and experience improved self-esteem.
