Heavy rain creates sinkhole on 32nd Street

–The heavy rain in the North County has created sink holes in city and county streets. On 32nd Street in Paso Robles rivulets caused a sinkhole in the center of the roadway. The pavement collapsed Thursday morning, leaving a deep, gaping hole in the center of the street.

A city truck hit the crater Thursday morning. Within a few hours crews returned to repair the hazard.

First, two men assessed the damage. Then, a second truck arrived, and a worker removed chunks of pavement from the hole in the street. A third truck arrived and another worker replaced the pavement chunks into the hole. Another man positioned a jackhammer in the hole and pounded the ground down 2-3 feet. Then, the workers filled the hole with sand and blacktop. They paved over it, and it looks like new. No cars were damaged; nobody injured by the sinkhole.
