Crimson wins awards

By Lauren Wassam, Crimson Newsmagazine

Crimson Newsmagazine earned a 1st Place Best of Show Award for Website and 3rd Place Best of Show Award for Newspaper Tabloid at the Spring 2017 NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Seattle on Saturday, Apr. 8, 2017.

Eight Crimson students and eight Advanced Video students attended with Advanced Video teacher John Rucker.

“We went on this trip to gain experience and we did, but we also walked away with a moment that we will never forget,” said senior Lauren Wassam, who is a five convention veteran on staff.

Crimson placed 1st in the Website division that identifies the 10 best sites at the roughly 3900-student, 200-school convention. Crimson placed 3rd in the Tabloid division that identifies the 10 best Newspaper Tabloids. This is the program’s second double-win since their success in Indianapolis in November 2016.

Leaders of the PRHS program are seniors Sadie Mae Mace and Lauren Wassam, along with junior Valeria Cisneros as chief editors. Mace and Wassam are three-year journalism students, and Cisneros is a two-year student.
